Quick Class Overview:

Join Chef Evangalene at Eat Well ABQ for a hands-on sourdough bread class in Albuquerque. This beginner-friendly class is designed to help you understand sourdough from starter care to mixing, shaping, scoring, fermentation, baking, and troubleshooting.

You’ll learn what to look for at each stage so sourdough feels less confusing and more doable at home, especially in Albuquerque’s dry high-desert climate.

Class Details:

  • Location: Eat Well ABQ
  • Address: 9927 Silverton Dr NW, Albuquerque, NM 87114
  • Price: $95 per person
  • Instructor: Chef Evangalene
  • Class Type: Hands-on, in-person sourdough bread class
  • Experience Level: Beginner-friendly
  • What to Bring: Nothing — all ingredients, tools, and equipment are included.

What’s Included:

Your sourdough bread class includes hands-on instruction with Chef Evangalene, sourdough starter guidance, dough mixing, shaping, scoring, fermentation support, baking guidance, troubleshooting tips, recipes or notes, and all ingredients, tools, and equipment needed during class.

Each student will make and take home 2 sourdough loaves plus sourdough starter, so you can keep practicing after class with real dough, real guidance, and a starter to continue baking at home.

This is not just a demonstration. You’ll be able to ask questions, see the dough at different stages, practice the techniques, and understand what to look for when baking at home.

What You’ll Learn:

  • How sourdough starter works
  • How to feed and maintain your starter
  • How to tell when your starter is ready to use
  • How to mix and strengthen sourdough dough
  • Stretch and fold technique
  • Shaping and scoring basics
  • Fermentation timing and what to look for
  • Baking tips for better crust and crumb
  • Troubleshooting common sourdough problems
  • High-desert sourdough guidance for Albuquerque and New Mexico kitchens

What to Expect:

Expect a warm, small-group bakery class with clear guidance from Chef Evangalene. The class is hands-on, supportive, and designed for beginners and home bakers who want sourdough to feel more understandable.

You do not need previous sourdough experience. Chef will walk you through the process step by step and help you understand the “why” behind each part of the bake.

Who This Class Is For:

This class is perfect for beginners, home bakers, sourdough starter owners, people who have struggled with starter, and anyone who wants a clear, hands-on sourdough foundation instead of trying to figure it out alone.

What You’ll Take Home:

You’ll take home 2 sourdough loaves that you make during class, sourdough starter, practical starter care guidance, class notes or recipe support, and a clearer understanding of the sourdough process so you can keep baking with more confidence at home.

A Note From Chef:

Sourdough is a process, and it gets easier when you know what to look for. This class is here to help you slow down, practice, ask questions, and feel supported while you learn.

“You pay for really good food now, or you pay for your health later.”

— Chef Evangalene
